This Tool Helps You Trim Your Twitter Follower List

Twitter It's a mess, but it's still addictive. While some people may have turned to Mastadon, those who stay may want to take full advantage of the website. If you feel like your timeline is too cluttered, a new tool called pruney your follows can really help with that.

The app shows you the people you largely follow in four categories: super popular (most followed), unpopular (least followed), hyper (accounts that tweet a lot), and inactive. You can quickly unfollow accounts that you think are no longer worth following. The app also allows you to see all the accounts you unfollowed through the app via a side menu.

The tools are made by Raae, a developer based in Norway. “I hit the 5000 follower limit (after almost 16 years on Twitter) and had a really hard time finding an account to unfollow. Twitter has only one view of the accounts you follow, with the most recently followed at the top. So I had the idea to build something for myself.", Dijo.

The tool is pretty neat, but Twitter imposes its own API limitations. The app can facilitate 50 unfollows every 15 minutes and 500 total unfollows for a day. If the app hits the limit, you can still click the individual profile and unfollow them on Twitter.

Raae said that to overcome this limit, he is experimenting with multiple features. One possibility is to display a total counter in the site or stagger access to the tool. As well is contemplating a feature that allows people to add Twitter accounts to a list. Later, they can open that list on Twitter and unfollow the accounts in one fell swoop.

He added that early adopters have demanded that they want to see more filters like the number of interactions with that account and a list of accounts that don't follow them. Besides, Raae said that another idea for future development is to introduce a custom filter so that users can search for something like “Show me all web3 accounts with less than 3000 followers”.

Some of these problems could be solved easily if Twitter will modify its API, but the Elon Musk-led company has already shut down several developer-related initiatives, including the Twitter Toolbox.
