Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), plans to release an "extreme sports" version of the Apple Watch this year. It is expected that the Apple Watch of extreme sports have the company's largest smartwatch screen to date, along with a larger battery and a rugged metal casing.
The screen will measure almost two inches diagonally, taking approximately 7% more screen area than the Apple Watch largest current. The screen will also have a resolution of approximately 410x502 pixels. It is speculated that the larger screen could be used to display more fitness metrics or information on watch faces.
In addition, it is said that the extreme sports watch will use a stronger metal than aluminum and will have a more shock-resistant screen. The watch is also expected to have a larger battery to accommodate longer training times. The watch is expected to have improved tracking metrics, such as the ability to detect elevation when walking. As with the Apple Watch 8, the extreme sports model is expected to have the ability to detect fevers by taking the wearer's body temperature.
The extreme sports model will reportedly be announced in late 2022, along with two other models like the Apple Watch Series 8 and an updated version of the lower-end Apple Watch SE. The Apple Watch Series 8 will retain its 1,9-inch diagonal screen size while the Apple WatchSE it will keep its current screen size of 1,78 inches. The extreme sports version of the Apple Watch cost more than the Apple Watch standard stainless steel standard, which is currently priced at $699.
In principle, all new Apple Watch will use an S8 processor with similar performance to the S7 chip in the Apple Watch Series 7. Apple typically announces its new watch models in September alongside new iPhone releases.
