Amazon announced its launch of Health Conditions Programs, a new initiative that aims to make it easier for people to discover digital health benefits to help them manage chronic diseases such as prediabetes, diabetes and high blood pressure. Digital health company Omada Health is Amazon's partner for this new initiative.
With the new service, users will be able to check their coverage, request programs and manage their chronic condition. Amazon says that if a user is covered by specific Health Conditions Programs through their health plan, they can have access to connected devices, a personal care team, health coaching, nutritional planning and more. The company notes that some programs may be paid for by your insurance plan or employer, at no cost to the customer.
Omada Health's more than 20 million eligible members can now discover and enroll in Omada diabetes, diabetes and hypertension prevention programs through Amazon. Members can initiate a general coverage check through the Amazon Health website to see if they are eligible for a program. Amazon says the new enrollment pathway will help reach “the one in 10 people with commercial insurance in the US who have access to enroll in Omada but may not know it.”
Amazon aims to raise awareness of Omada's cardiometabolic programs and increase enrollment for Omada's more than 1.900 employers and health plan customers.
“Amazon wants to make it easier for people to get and stay healthy, and part of that is making it easier to discover the products, services and professionals that can help them get there,” said Aaron Martin, vice president of medical care from Amazon. “Many people are unaware of the health care benefits they are entitled to, which are typically free or subsidized by their employer or insurance plan. “When customers purchase health-related products on Amazon, we can show them these additional healthcare benefits to give them even more support to improve their health, at no additional cost.”
The company plans to expand its partnerships with companies in digital health to further help customers discover what benefits may be available to them.
