GPT Chat FAQ

What is ChatGPT? How does it work?

ChatGPT is a general-purpose chatbot that uses artificial intelligence to generate text after a user enters a message, developed by tech startup OpenAI. The chatbot uses GPT-4, a large language model (LLM) that uses deep learning to produce human-like text.

When was ChatGPT launched?

November 30, 2022 is when ChatGPT was released for public use.

What is the latest version of ChatGPT?

Both the free version of ChatGPT and the paid ChatGPT Plus are regularly updated with new GPT models. The most recent model is GPT-4.

Can I use ChatGPT for free?

There is a free version of ChatGPT that only requires login in addition to the paid version, ChatGPT Plus.

Who uses ChatGPT?

Anyone can use ChatGPT. More and more technology companies and search engines are using chatbots to automate text or quickly respond to user questions or concerns.

What companies use ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is used by several companies, although others may limit their use of the AI-powered tool.

More recently, Microsoft announced at its Build 2023 conference that it is integrating its ChatGPT-based Bing experience into Windows 11. Looking Glass, a Brooklyn-based 3D display startup, uses ChatGPT to produce holograms that you can communicate with using ChatGPT. And nonprofit Solana officially integrated the chatbot into its network with a ChatGPT plugin aimed at end users to help get on board with the web3 space.

What does GPT mean in ChatGPT?

GPT stands for Generative Pre-Trained Transformer.

What is the difference between ChatGPT and Bard?

Like OpenAI's ChatGPT, Bard is a chatbot that will answer questions in natural language. Google announced at its I/O 2023 event that it will soon add multimodal content to Bard, meaning it can deliver responses in more than just text — responses can also give you rich images. Rich images mean images for now, but later they can include maps, charts, and other elements.

ChatGPT's generative AI has had a longer lifespan and has therefore been "learning" for a longer period of time than Bard.

What is the difference between ChatGPT and a chatbot?

A chatbot can be any software/system that maintains a dialogue with you/a person, but it does not necessarily have to be powered by AI. For example, there are chatbots that are rule-based in the sense that they will give predetermined answers to questions.

ChatGPT is powered by artificial intelligence and uses LLM technology to generate text after entering a message.

Can ChatGPT write essays?

Yes.

Can ChatGPT commit defamation?

Due to the nature of how these models work, they don't know or care if something is true, just that it appears true based on the data you have. That's a problem when used to accomplish a task, of course, but when it accuses a crime that was not committed, at this point it may well be defamation.

We will see how the handling of the troubling statements produced by ChatGPT will play out in the coming months as legal and technology experts attempt to address this fast-moving target in the industry.

What are some examples of everyday uses of ChatGPT?

Everyday examples include programming, scripts, email responses, lists, blog ideas, summaries, etc.

What are some advanced uses of ChatGPT?

Examples of advanced usage include debugging code, programming languages, scientific concepts, complex problem solving, etc.

How good is ChatGPT at writing code?

It depends on the nature of the program. While ChatGPT can write workable Python code, it can't necessarily program the entire code of an application. This is because ChatGPT lacks context awareness; In other words, the generated code is not always appropriate for the specific context in which it is used.

Can you save a ChatGPT chat?

Yes. OpenAI allows users to save chats in the ChatGPT interface, stored in the sidebar of the screen. There are still no features for sharing such chats or other content.

Are there alternatives to ChatGPT?

Yes. There are multiple AI-powered chatbot competitors, such as (Together, Google's Bard and Anthropic's Claude, and developers are creating open source alternatives. But the latter are more difficult – if not impossible – to execute today.

Google-owned research lab DeepMind said its upcoming LLM will rival, or even surpass, OpenAI's ChatGPT. DeepMind is using techniques from AlphaGo, DeepMind's AI system that was the first to defeat a professional human player in the board game Go, to create a chatbot called Gemini to rival ChatGPT.

Apple is developing artificial intelligence tools to challenge OpenAI, Google and other competitors. The tech giant created a chatbot that some engineers refer to internally as “Apple GPT,” but Apple has yet to determine a strategy for launching AI to consumers.

How does ChatGPT handle data privacy?

OpenAI has said that people in “certain jurisdictions” (such as the EU) can object to the processing of their personal information by its AI models by completing use this form. This includes the ability to make requests for removal of references to the individual generated by AI. Although OpenAI notes that it may not grant all requests as it must balance privacy requests with freedom of expression "in accordance with applicable laws."

The web form for deleting your request is titled “OpenAI Personal Data Deletion Request.”

In its privacy policy, the creator of ChatGPT incidentally acknowledges the objection requirements associated with relying on “legitimate interest” (LI), telling users more information about how to request an opt-out, when it writes: “Check here for instructions on how to do this. You can choose not to use your information to train our models.”
