Qiara is a new home security service for the French market

If you live in France and want to add a security system to your home, you don't have many options. You can contact a home security company like Verisure and Homiris, but you will end up paying expensive subscription fees with long-term contracts. You can also buy your own security camera and connected sensors. But, in that case, there will be no one watching your house for you.

Qiara wants to modernize the old home security market with live agents. The company wants to sell security products and subscriptions directly to end customers through its website, without any long-term commitment.

Users first choose the security products they need from the company's own product portfolio. Qiara sells a camera, a door sensor, a keypad, a siren, and a motion sensor.

Then users can pay $29,99 per month for service with live agents. If an alarm goes off, the surveillance agent tries to call you and checks the video from the security camera. If you don't answer the phone and there is something suspicious, the company will call the police. The company offers you a discount of 10 euros on the subscription fee during the first year. There's also a cheaper subscription for customers who don't need 24/7 surveillance, but that defeats the purpose of the service.

In addition to the keyboard, Qiara offers a mobile application that allows you to activate the alarm and view live images from security cameras. You can set the system to turn off automatically when your phone is nearby thanks to Bluetooth. You can also activate a privacy shutter when you are home so that the security camera does not film your family.

All modules are battery operated except for the security camera. If a power or network failure occurs, Qiara can continue to protect your home thanks to compatibility with the Sigfox network. Founded by Alexis Bidinot, a former Iliad executive, the company has decided to design its connected devices in-house.

In many aspects, Qiara looks a bit like SimpliSafe In U.S.A. By default, you configure the security modules yourself and that's it: it's a DIY home security system. Let's see if Qiara can get a piece of the home security market in France.
