Federal regulators closed an investigation into Tesla for allowing board games while their vehicles were in motion.
The United States. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began the research projects. in late 2021 after discovering that video games could be viewed and played on the center screen even while the vehicle was moving. The investigation covered more than 580.000 Tesla vehicles.
Tesla shares rose 3% following news that the NHTSA had closed its investigation.
Tesla disabled the ride-hailing feature via an over-the-air software update after discussing the matter with officials. However, NHTSA continued its investigation. At the time, NHTSA reiterated that the Vehicle Safety Act prohibits companies from selling cars that pose significant safety risks, including from distracted driving.
One month after the software update, Tesla reported that 97% of vehicles had completed the update.
NHTSA said in its most recent update that there is no safety-related defect. The agency said it could take further action if warranted, such as finding a future safety-related defect.
