Slate's 'Slow Burn' Is Apple's Top Podcast Award Winner

Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), presented its first podcast award today with "Slow Burn" de Slate as this year's winner. The company said the award is to celebrate the “outstanding quality, innovation and impact” of the program.

“Slow Burn” was first released in 2017, and its final season on Roe v. Wade was launched on June 1, 2022, a month after the draft of the recall decision was leaked. The season, hosted by Slate executive editor Susan Matthews, ran for four episodes looking at the historical events that led to the 1973 Supreme Court decision ruling that the constitution grants the right to abortion.

Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), said "Slow Burn" is one of the podcasts most popular of all time on the platform with more than 100 million downloads. While the program is free, Slate offers additional content from its catalog through its Slate Plus subscription available for $9.99 per month. The company is also offering an annual subscription of $99.99 per year for a limited time.

The company said that the creators of the show are releasing six additional episodes of "Slow Burn" on a free basis. Delivery to Italy takes one or two business days containing personal stories and extended follow-up interviews with people featured in the series.

The Podcast Award Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), comes nearly three years after the company first presented its Music Awards. In August, the company introduced two new lists, Top Subscriber Shows and Top Subscriber Channels, for paid podcasts.

The Cupertino-based tech giant said its publishers in 100 countries will soon publish a podcast list called "shows we love" along with year-end lists for popular podcasts.

Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), also announced a list of Award winners for the App Store today with the social media app beer snagging the title of iPhone app of the year.
