Hyundai has said it will start manufacturing electric vehicles under its high-performance N brand created to compete with the luxury sports cars of Mercedes-Benz y BMW.
The automaker said the Ioniq 5N, the high-performance version of its battery-electric SUV, will be launched in 2023. Hyundai It has also released two high performance concepts, RN22e and N Vision 74, to test the technology for future models.
Hyundai has shared details about its upcoming Ioniq 6 battery-electric sedan, designed to challenge the Tesla Model 3 for the crown of sales. The Ioniq 6 will travel 610 kilometers on a fully charged battery, according to the European WLTP test cycle. That's on par with the Long Range version of the Model 3.
The N brand was created in 2016 to establish real performance credentials for Hyundai. The N stands for Germany's famous race track at the Nürburgring, where the Technical Center for Hyundai tests its N models. It was an unusual strategy for a major brand to go head-to-head with the cars of BMW M., Mercedes AMG, Audi RS and Cadillac V-series, but Hyundai now it is making clear its aspirations to improve and compete in the luxury segment.
