In an industry obsessed with making everything huge (at least in the US), you might not expect GM show interest in an electric baby pickup.
According to Automotive News, GM is considering the design of a pick-up "smaller than the Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz", with a "low roof line" and a bed between 1,2 and 1,2 meters. Apparently, the publication saw a prototype of the EV in a GM shop and claimed that it could be priced under $30.000 (very cheap compared to most new EVs today). Judging by this description, the little truck could serve as a spiritual successor to the Chevrolet S-10 EV, which briefly made history as one of the first electric pickup trucks in the late '90s.
GM design director Michael Pevovar, told Automotive News that the design is not final and that the manufacturer "creates it to get a reaction and then try to modify it or move on."
GM said it plans to invest another $339 million in three more facilities, which will produce EV components. We've also learned that GM has shelved a plan to partner with LG on a fourth battery plant in the United States. One of these plants is already active in Ohio, while two others are still in the pipeline in Tennessee and Michigan.
