How to prevent X (Twitter) from using your data to train its Grok AI

The X platform, formerly Twitter, has implemented a function that makes it possible to train its artificial intelligence Grok with user messages automatically. This setting has been activated by default by the company. Fortunately, it is possible to disable this feature and delete the history of interactions with artificial intelligence.

Depending on the platform, if the setting is enabled, X has the ability to allow your posts, user interactions, inputs and results with Grok to be used for training and tuning purposes. The X configuration page specifies that these interactions, contributions and results could be shared with the xAI service provider for these purposes.

Although it is not possible to disable the setting through the X mobile application, it is possible to carry out this action in the desktop version.

How to turn off X data sharing

To turn off X data sharing settings, follow the steps below.

  • Open the configuration page in X from the desktop.
  • Click on the “Privacy and security” option.
  • Choose the “Grok” option.
  • Uncheck the box.

Once the setting has been disabled, you can clear your AI conversation history by clicking the “Delete conversation history” button.

X owner Elon Musk announced that the artificial intelligence known as xAI had started the process of training its extensive Grok language model. Musk claimed that this AI model would become “the most powerful AI in the world in every aspect by December 2024.” It has been evident that Musk and Company X intended to employ not only a powerful training set but also users’ previous messages and posts to train their AI.

Meta, the company that owns Facebook and Instagram, informed users in the European Union and the United Kingdom last month about a future change in which it would use public data from those platforms to improve its artificial intelligence. However, after pressure from regulatory authorities, the company finally decided to suspend this initiative. It should be noted that X is not the only social network that has used this practice.
